Around Saint-Maximin la Sainte-Baume :
 

In approximatly  an hour drive West  , you will be able to reach Aix en Provence, Arles and the Camargue National Park, St Remy de Provence, Les Baux de Provence and the Alpilles, not forgetting the famous Luberon villages. You will also have the opportunity to visit  Marseille, Cassis and the creeks where you can enjoy our traditional bouillabaisse (Provençal fish stew) accompanied by a glass of rosé wine.

Driving East, reach Nice, the flower capital of the Riviera, with its pastel-coloured facades and narrow lanes so Italianate in feel !

Or choose to go for a stroll along the coastline, see the red rocks of the Esterel mountain and  visit Saint-Tropez, the famous fishing village.
 

An hour North, Trigance is a perfect starting point for visiting the canyons of Verdon. Trigane is a genuine village of Haute Provence, looking out over the valley of Jabron and surrounded by fragrant hills…. And if you’re here in June, that is when the lavender fields are blooming!

The town of Saint-Maximin la Sainte-Baume, in the green heart of Provence, also called La Provence Verte, is situated at the crossroads to the Var coast and the Verdon Grand Canyon, and benefits from a great central location.

12 miles away South, The Sainte-Baume Mountain, which  is bathed in mystery and legend, shelters the cave and monastery dedicated to Mary Magdalene.  The village of Nans-les-Pins is located at the foot of the Sainte Baume mountain and is surrounded by wonderful natural landscapes. Besides the impressive back-drop o the huge rockface overlooking the village, there are many beautiful walks to do in the forest.

Endowed a remarkable natural site, the town of Saint-Maximin la Sainte Baume and its surrounding holly hills have become a famous place of pilgrimage. The town occupies an important position in the history of Christianity : Its gigantic Basilica  shelters, according to catholic tradiction,  the relics of Mary Magdalene  who spent her last 30 years in the sainte-Baume cave.

The town of Saint-Maximin la Sainte Baume is also well known for its church organ, its royal monastery, its numerous concerts given in the cloister, its medieval quarter, and its large local markets…

The tourist office located in the royal monastery is open 7 days.
